OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University head swimming and diving coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron announced the addition of five new team members on Thursday. Three of the newcomers arrived on campus in January, while the remaining two will join the program in the fall. All five project to score at the Mid-American Conference Championship, even as early as this spring.
"These student-athletes will bring additional talent and strength to our already rising program," Bonewit-Cron said. "As we embark on our upcoming championship meets, we are excited for them to contribute to our blossoming culture of graduating champions with success at both the conference and NCAA levels."
Entering the program immediately are Camila Lins de Mello, Beatriz Pimentel "Bia" Dizotti and Maria Eduarda "Duda" Seifer, all of whom come from Brazil and project to make several A finals at this year's MAC Championship. Lins de Mello, a native of Belo Horizonte, specializes in sprint freestyle and brings converted lifetime bests of 23.59, 48.97 and 1:47.14 in the 50, 100 and 200, respectively. She also boasts a converted 2:00.19 in the 200 IM. Dizotti, a native of Sao Paulo, brings tremendous versatility to the RedHawks, with converted best times of 4:51.77 and 16:39.65 in the 500 and 1650 free, 2:03.19 and 4:18.25 in the 200 and 400 IM and 2:00.41 in the 200 fly. Seifer, also from Belo Horizonte, is a distance freestyler, bringing converted lifetime bests of 1:48.87, 4:47.57 and 16:55.08 in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle.
Joining them next fall will be two additional members of the class of 2019. Alyssa Schroeder of Clarkston, Michigan brings a wealth of events in mid-distance stroke, including a 400 IM (4:26.56) that would have scored at last year's MAC Championship. Ben Neff, from nearby Columbus, Ohio, is a mid-distance freestyler with two events, the 100 (46.13) and 200 (1:41.35) free, that also would have scored at the conference meet last year.
