Miami ends a three-game slide and moves back into the win column with the 5-0 win.
HAMILTON, Ohio - The Miami University women's tennis team got back in the win column Saturday as the RedHawks dominated the visiting Western Kentucky Hilltoppers by a score of 5-0. Miami improves to 2-6 on the season, while WKU is left searching for its first win at 0-9.Â
The RedHawks were able to pick up the doubles point for the first time this season when the team of Melati Devi and Lena Babunski clinched with a 6-2 victory on the second court. After a win by default at third doubles, this was enough to give Miami the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Miami would double its lead early into the singles session as Makenzie Myers rolled through her opponent at sixth singles without dropping a single game. While she was in the process of putting away her match, the rest of the RedHawks were close behind as Miami picked up the first set on all six courts.
Babunski closed out her match over on court five with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 victory and Kalita followed right after her with a 6-3, 6-2 win of her own that made the score 4-0 RedHawks and clinched the victory for Miami. Freshman Jordan Ortega-Mendez then picked up her first victory in her young Miami career with a 6-1, 6-4 decision at third singles. After Ortega-Mendez's win, the final two matches were abandoned and the day's match ended with a final 5-0 scoreline.
