Miami Athletics will host a cancer awareness weekend from October 18-20 to raise awareness for cancer research and to also generate funds for patients and families through Swoop's Stoop at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Â
"Last year's cancer awareness event was more than just a football game. It brought national attention to something that affects so many people in so many ways," said
David Sayler, Miami's Director of Athletics. "This year we wanted to do something on a larger scale. By including hockey, field hockey, volleyball and football it gives us and the community an opportunity to generate even more awareness for those in need."
Â
Swoop's Stoop is an initiative that was created by former Miami goaltenderÂ
Cody Reichard ('12) beginning in the 2010-11 Miami University hockey season as an effort to help sick children in Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The program started out small by recognizing a few children at Miami hockey games and has now grown into a funded program providing many more opportunities for children in Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Â
Throughout the week, fans will have the opportunity to participate in this initiative in several ways and can also purchase a special t-shirt that honors all that have battled cancer. The t-shirts are $16 (

Â
Miami football's helmets and Miami hockey's sweaters will feature unique cancer displays throughout the weekend to raise awareness. The helmets and sweaters will be available for purchase via auction beginning Oct. 14. Stay tuned to MiamiRedHawks.com for more details.
