PHILADELPHIA - Miami University track & field wrapped up the Penn Relays while also hosting the RedHawk Invitational Saturday.
To begin the day at Penn, Miami ran a 4xMile that saw solid splits for the `Hawks. Their eighth-place time of 16:40.25 was put together by Christopher Torpy, Jake Brumfield, Ryan Pitner, and Sean Torpy. Three of the RedHawks - Brumfield and both Torpy brothers - hit mile splits under 4:10.
The men then had Mitchell Towne, Peter Cooke, Jonathan Fee, and Sean Torpy run the 4x800m. Running in front of a crowd of nearly 30,000 people at the historic meet, the group put turned in a 7:37.52 to place 10th in a top-10 that was separated by just ten total seconds. "Someday we would like to come here to the Penn Relays and be in competition for a win, but it takes experience and it takes all four athletes showing up on the same day and in the same race and putting it all together," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tom Chorny. "We are definitely getting better and that is showing every week. This was our last week of solid work before really tapering off to get ready for the conference meet."
