UPDATE: The ITA has changed the result of the match against Western Kentucky and ruled that there is no winner. The results below have been updated to reflect this.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Miami University women's tennis team dropped their first match to East Tennessee State 6-1 on Friday before playing Western Kentucky on Saturday, a match that was ruled as having no winner. The `Hawks are now sitting at 4-6 on the season.
Nothing seemed to go quite right for Miami in its match against the Buccaneers. The RedHawks came in early with a doubles win from Priyana Kalita and Anastasiia Vasiukhina, but ETSU would go on to win the other two doubles pairings to clinch the point. In singles, ETSU quickly earned wins on courts 6, 1, and 2 to clinch the victory. Miami's lone point came when junior Emily Struble bested her opponent in a close match, with Struble grinding out a third-set tiebreak win.
Saturday's follow-up however, would be much more successful for the Red and White. The 'Hawks started the match by claiming the doubles point after wins from Kalita/Vasiukhina and Struble with Milana Lysova.
After originally winning three-of-four singles matches against the Hilltoppers, lead by Nelli Ponomareva with a 6-3, 6-3 win at first singles, results on courts 2-4 were changed after a ruling by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and awarded to Western Kentucky. As such, the match is officially declared as having no winner.
The full results for both matches can be found below.
Miami is back in action next Saturday, March 3, when they visit the Indiana Hoosiers in its non-conference finale. Mid-American Conference play will begin March 23, when the 'Hawks take on Ball State in Muncie.
