LEXINGTON, Ky. - Andrew Dusing became the third member of the Miami University track and field program to extend their season as the RedHawks closed out competition at the NCAA East Region Preliminary on Saturday night.
Dusing finished third in his heat and 16th overall in the 1500m, clocking a time of 3:56.65 to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in his career. He will represent the Red & White with Martha Szekely (hammer throw) and Danielle Collier (javelin) in Eugene next month. The senior also ran the 5000m and took 41st with a time of 15:24.42.
"This has been a great weekend for the RedHawks," Director of Track & Field Tom Chorny said. "While a few of our athletes end their season here, three have qualified to represent Miami on the biggest stage in collegiate track and field. This is a big victory for the whole team.
"Andrew stepped onto the track (in the 1500m) and ran one of the best races of his life. Not only does he have a lot more in the tank, but he showed that he is an athlete who can be very dangerous in the next round."
Two more RedHawks were in action in the throwing circle, with Amelia Strickler and Arionna Darling closing out their collegiate careers in the shot put. Stirckler placed 17th with a throw of 52-6 while Darling ended up 31st after tossing 49-11.
The trio of RedHawks continuing their season will be back in action for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Historic Hayward Field June 7-10.
