Field Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks won the MAC Tournament in Kent, Ohio. On Friday, Miami beat Appalachian State 6-1 to advance to the tournament championship. Lexi Silver (2), Neely Lochmoeller, Leonor Berlie, Allie Grace Joyner and Paula Portugal scored against Appalachian State. (Recap) On Saturday, the RedHawks beat Kent State 2-1 in overtime. Miami trailed by one at the half before Avery Sturm tied things up. Portugal scored the game-winning goal in overtime on a fantastic individual effort, taking a pass from Henni Otten midfield and dribbling all the way into the circle to take a shot. (Recap) The RedHawks swept the regular-season MAC honors with Portugal being named MAC Player of the Year, Berlie being named MAC Freshman of the Year and Inako Puzo being named MAC Coach of the Year. Five players were named to All-MAC teams: Portugal, Berlie, Maddie Passarella, Otten and A. Sturm. Makenna Colby was named the MAC Tournament MVP. Passarella, A. Sturm, Portugal and Colby were named to the MAC Tournament team. This Week: The RedHawks travel to Stanford for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The two teams will face off on Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST. The winner of this game will travel to Duke for a First-Round game on Saturday, November 11. (Preview)
Volleyball
Last Week: A perfect weekend allowed Miami (19-8 overall, 11-3 MAC) to tie for the MAC regular season lead going into the final weekend. Senior outside hitter Olivia Rusek had a strong performance in all six-rotations, helping lead Miami to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-16) victory over Kent State on Friday. (Recap) Led by its seniors on Senior Day, the Miami University volleyball team cruised to its third straight victory with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-13) win over Ohio on Saturday. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks will play two matches on the road in the final week of the regular season. It starts on Friday with a trip to Buffalo for a 6 p.m. match. That contest will air live on ESPN3. The regular season ends on Saturday at Akron with a 3 p.m. matinee.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The Miami women (1-2 overall, 1-1 MAC) hosted Bowling Green for a duel meet. The Miami men had an intrasquad meet. The Miami women beat Bowling Green by a 224-85 margin. They earned first-place finishes in 14 out of 16 events with eight athletes earning more than one first-place finish. Izzy Herb had a team-high three first place finishes, coming in with the fastest time in the 200 Back (2:04.42), 200 Fly (2:04.97) and as a leg in the 400 Medley Relay (3:49.17). Pei Lin swept the diving contests again, scoring 362.85 in the three meter and 330.52 in the one meter. (Recap) Next Week: Both the men and women travel to Michigan State for a 12 p.m. meet on Saturday, November 11.
Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks (4-4, 1-1 NCHC) began conference play against Colorado College over the weekend. Friday night saw Louie Belpedio stake MU to a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes, but CC struck for a pair of third-period power play goals to nab a 2-1 lead late in regulation. With an extra skater on the ice, Casey Gilling forced overtime by netting his second of the year with 50.7 seconds left before Josh Melnick won it in the extra session to put Miami in the win column with the 3-2 decision (Recap). Conor Lemirande got Miami off to a strong start with his first goal of the season on Saturday, putting it ahead 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Tigers netted two goals in the second period, going ahead on a power play tally with 0.1 seconds left before intermission and holding on to the 2-1 lead in the third to force a series split (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks head out to Grand Forks, N.D. for a showdown with North Dakota on Friday and Saturday.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: Both the senior and collegiate teams got their competitive seasons underway at the Diamond Classic in Mentor, Ohio. The senior squad prevailed both in its short program, free skate and in the overall standings against Adrian while a few falls deducted enough points to see the collegiate team finish just behind Adrian in the free skate (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks head west to the Anaheim Ice Synchronized Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
Men's Basketball
This Week: The 2017-18 season begins on Friday when the RedHawks travel to Fordham for a 7 p.m. tip.
Women's Basketball
This Week: The Red & White open the regular season at home on Friday when they host Detroit Mercy at 2 p.m. The contest will mark the head coaching debut of Megan Duffy. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.
Football
Last Week: Miami (3-6, 2-3 MAC) lost 45-28 at Ohio. In the loss James Gardner had 136 yards receiving and three touchdowns. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks host Akron on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., live on ESPN2.
