OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University swimming and diving team dove head first into the 24th annual Miami Invitational on Thursday.
The Miami women lead the competition with 478 points going into day two. The Miami men currently rank second with 307 points. The divers did not compete today.
Leading the way for the women was their depth in the 500 Free. Ella Moynihan finished second (4:51.98) with Emma Bradley (4:54.14) and Claire Doerr (4:55.24) right behind her.
The relays proved to be strong events for the women as well. Izzy Herb, Holly Schuster, Peyton Mosbaugh and Elise Campbell finished second in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:45.21. Campbell, Mosbaugh, Moynihan and Abby Stone took third in the 200 Free Relay (1:33.56).
Abby Stone finished second in the 50 Free (23.36) and Carolyn Jungers finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:03.18).
The relays led the way for the men. Ross Westrick, Chase Bettner, Iago Moussalem and Nicholas Ward (Nick) finished second in the 200 Free Relay (1:23.31). Westrick, Moussalem, James Wray and Thomas Blackstone (Hutch) finished fourth in the 400 Medley Relay (3:19.59).
Gordon Wheeler finished third in the 500 Free (4:29.19).
The Miami Invitational continues Friday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
