Melnick continued his scoring surge in last weekend's sweep of St. Cloud State. The sophomore netted three of Miami's seven goals on the weekend and has now scored in four straight games after tallying just one goal in the first 15 contests this year. On Friday night, Melnick netted a pair of power play goals in the final 2:20 to help the RedHawks tie the Huskies in the final minute of regulation before striking again 1:23 into overtime to seal a comeback win. Leading 2-1 on Saturday, Melnick again connected on the power play to seal away a 4-1 win and Miami's first weekend series sweep of the season.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Melnick has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
McCoy was a solid contributor in two games for the Miami women's basketball team this past week. The sophomore averaged 9.0 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds per contest. In the team's second game of the week at Toledo, McCoy earned her first start since Nov. 26 and responded by scoring a season-high 11 points.
This is the first time this season and in her career that McCoy has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Jan. 16.
