OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week junior distance runner Andrew Dusing and sophomore softball third baseman Kat Lee are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of May 2-8.
Dusing posted a time of 3:45.59 in the 1500m at the Billy Hayes Invitational, taking second place. Dusing's performance gives him the second-fastest time at 1500m in the Mid-American Conference. It also jumps him to sixth on the Miami all-time top-10 list.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Dusing has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Lee, who was named MAC East Co-Player of the Week as well on Monday, had a big offensive performance in leading the RedHawks to a weekend sweep at Buffalo. She hit two home runs among her five hits for an impressive slugging percentage of 1.100. She also drew a walk in the opening win to increase her on base percentage to .545.
In the doubleheader on Saturday, Lee went 1-for-3 in the opener. Her fifth inning single drove in two runs and helped put the game away. In the nightcap, Lee had a career-game finishing 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Her first two at bats were home runs, her first career two homer game.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Lee has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, May 16.
