OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week sophomore pitcher Gus Graham and senior outfielder Taylor Shuey are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of April 11-17.
Graham turned in another solid start on Friday, setting the tone for the weekend as Miami opened their series at MAC East foe Buffalo. The sophomore righty tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, striking out four Bulls. Graham has been a key cog in a young RedHawk pitching staff that is starting to find its stride. The Gallipolis, Ohio native has not allowed a run in his last three starts and has surrendered just seven hits over that span. Graham has racked up 31 strikeouts on the season, the second-most amongst MU pitchers, and has held opposing hitters to just a .245 batting average. He has also been the starting pitcher in two of Miami's four shutout victories.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Graham has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Shuey had a historic offensive week in leading the RedHawks to three important MAC wins. She went 8-for-12 with six RBIs and six runs scored for a .667 batting average. She drew four walks and had an on-base percentage of .750. In her eight hits included two doubles and two home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.333.
Shuey became Miami's all-time leader in RBIs this week, she now has 107 for her career.
This is the second time this season and in her career that Shuey has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Feb. 29-March 6.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, April 25.
