OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week senior swimmer Jacob Prodoehl and the senior softball outfielder Taylor Shuey are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 29-March 6.
Prodoehl had quite the performance this past weekend at the MAC Championships. The Milwaukee, Wis. native broke two school records, the first being the 100-yd backstroke. Prodoehl touched the wall with a time of 48.76, breaking Davis Staley's 48.96 mark by two-tenths of a second. The senior capped off the weekend by breaking another one of Staley's records, this time the 200-yd backstroke. Prodoehl clocked in with a time of 1:46.34, just surpassing Staley's time of 1:46.54 set back in 2014. For his efforts, Prodoehl was named to the All-MAC First Team.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that Prodoehl has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of Feb. 3-9, 2014.
Shuey made a big impact in three of the games at the RedHawks home Miami Invitational this weekend. She went 5-for-9 for a batting average of .556, while driving in four. Among her hits were a triple and a home run for a slugging percentage of 1.111 on the week. Shuey went 2-for-4 in the win over Dayton on Friday. She hit her home run in finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored to lead the RedHawks to an 8-0 run rule win over Western Illinois. She was 1-for-2 with a triple against IUPUI before an injury forced her to miss the rest of the weekend.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Shuey has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, March 7.
