OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week junior baseball second baseman Steve Sada and junior diver Pei Lin are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of March 14-20.
Sada has been a consistent performer since arriving at Miami and that output was on display over the course of four games this past week. The junior kicked off last week's with a 2-for-3 performance at Cincinnati, collecting two doubles, a run, an RBI and also earned a walk. Despite a 1-for-4 performance Wednesday at Xavier, the infielder swiped a base and has yet to be caught stealing this season. Friday at Richmond, Sada had everything going for him as he finished 4-for-5 on the day, tying his career-high for hits in a single game. He also scored two runs, stole another base and posted a career-high four RBI. Saturday saw Sada go 1-for-5 with one run, one RBI and a triple. The Saegertown, Pa. is currently on a five-game hit streak. In total, Sada finished the week 8-for-17 (.471) with four runs, six RBI, two doubles, one triple, two walks, two stolen bases and a slugging percentage of .706.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that Sada has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of April 14-20, 2014.
Lin capped an impressive junior campaign with a pair of top-three finishes at the NCAA Championships last weekend. Lin placed second with a score of 399.40 in the three-meter dive, just narrowly missing first place by 5.30 points. Nevada's Sharae Zheng (404.70), who won the one-meter dive Thursday night, won the three-meter event on Friday. Lin bested Florida's Kahila Warner by 12.20 points. Lin placed third in the one-meter dive on Thursday, tallying 332.20 points. She finished behind Zheng (344.95) and UCLA's Eloise Belanger (336.00). Her efforts put Miami in 24th place in the meet as a team, the best finish in school history. A four-time All-American in her RedHawk career, Lin was a two-time First-Team All-American with her finishes this season.
This is the second straight week and fourth time in her career that Lin has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, March 28.
