CLEVELAND – In a recent poll of Mid-American Conference swim coaches, the RedHawk women were predicted to finish third at the MAC Championships and the men to finish fourth. The conference announced the predictions on Tuesday afternoon.
Both teams finished fifth at the MAC Championships last season and are looking to bounce back.
For the women, Akron was projected to win with six first-place votes, with Eastern Michigan picked to be the runners-up. Miami was then placed third, but had two first-place votes. Buffalo and Bowling Green respectively completed the top five. Rounding out the poll were Ohio, Toledo and Ball State.
Ironically enough, the poll turned out the exact same as last season’s poll, besides for the fact that Miami stole two of Akron’s first-place votes.
As for the men, Eastern Michigan was projected to win the conference, picking up four first-place votes. Buffalo and Missouri State were picked to finish second and third, respectively, each getting one first-place ballot. The Red and White were then slated at the fourth position. Southern Illinois, Ball State and Evansville rounded out the competition.
The RedHawks will compete at Purdue on Friday at 5 p.m. and will return home Saturday to the Nixon to take on Xavier at 1 p.m.
