Hockey
Last Week: Miami picked up two of six league points in a weekend series against preseason NCHC favorite Minnesota Duluth over the weekend. The RedHawks went ahead just over two minutes into the second period on Chris Joyaux's fourth goal of the year and maintained a 1-0 lead until Tony Cameranesi tied things up with 5:38 left in regulation. Jay Williams made 36 saves to keep the contest tied through 65 minutes and Louie Belpedio scored in the 3-on-3 overtime to give MU two points after a 1-1 tie (Recap). The Bulldogs scored the first four goals in Saturday's finale, netting two goals in the first and two more in the first 10 minutes of the second period to chase Ryan McKay. Goals by Belpedio and Ryan Siroky pulled MU within 4-2 midway through the third period, but it got no closer in an eventual 5-2 loss (Recap). This Week: Miami concludes its five-game home stand when it takes on Bowling Green Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks dropped a pair of games last week. Senior guard Geovonie McKnight posted a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as Miami suffered a 73-62 loss at Bowling Green on Wednesday evening in its MAC opener. (Recap) A solid second-half run by the RedHawks was not enough to overcome an outstanding 3-point shooting performance by Toledo as Miami fell, 84-76, Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. (Recap) This Week: Miami hits the road for a pair of games, traveling to Kent State for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and then to Ball State for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 16.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (7-7 overall, 1-1 MAC) split its two conference games last week. The RedHawks got back on the winning track with a 66-60 win over the Northern Illinois. Sophomore guard Baleigh Reid led the way with 15 points. (Recap) Miami played solid defense a good chunk of the game, but struggled offensively in dropping a 66-41 decision to Ball State Saturday afternoon. Reid finished with 16 points (Recap) This Week: The Red and White have two more games this week. Miami hosts Toledo on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a contest that will air live on ESPN3. The RedHawks then head to Western Michigan on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip.
Women's Track & Field
Last Week: The 2016 stretch of the indoor season kicked off for the Miami University women's track and field program at the Buckeye Classic.In the shot put, Amelia Strickler led the RedHawks on a second-place mark of 49-3.5 feet on her fourth throw. Ashley Frahm was second for the 'Hawks, marking 45-6.25 for sixth overall. Arionna Darling tossed 43-11.75 feet on her final attempt to finish third for the Red and White and seventh overall. Martha Szekely led the way for the RedHawks, finishing fifth on a throw of 54-10.75 in the weight throw. Ashley Frahm marked 50-06.75 to finish ninth. Arionna Darling finished the day with a mark of 46-02.50 for 11th and Katie Walter rounded out the RedHawk campaign with a mark of 43-05.75 for 12th overall (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks will return to action at the Kentucky Invitational and the Blazer Invitational on Jan. 15 in Lexington and Birmingham, respectively.
Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving
This Week: The RedHawks are back in action for the first time since the Miami Invitational. The Men's team trained in California and the Women's in Florida over their break. Both teams will take on Cincinnati on Wednesday, January 13 at 6 p.m. in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Women's Tennis
This Week: Miami returns to the court this weekend following a three-month break. The RedHawks will travel to the University of Pittsburgh for the Nishan Vartabedian Spring Invitational which begins Friday, January 15 at 1 p.m. They will face off against Akron, Pitt and Marshall in their final individual exhibition matches of the season.
