OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week football senior defensive end Bryson Albright and volleyball sophomore outside hitter Olivia Rusek are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 14-20.
Albright absolutely filled up the stat sheet on Saturday in a 37-33 loss versus Cincinnati. The senior recorded four tackles, a sack, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup. His second fumble recovery resulted in a short Miami field goal to give the RedHawks a 33-30 lead late in the fourth quarter.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Albright has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Rusek helped lead Miami to a perfect weekend at its home tournament, sweeping all three of its matches at the Miami Invitational presented by Best Western Sycamore Inn. Serving her usual six-rotation role she was on the floor for all but a couple of points during the weekend (to clean up a cut on her elbow) and often served as the primary passer when she was in the back row. She made only one reception error in 56 attempts for a reception percentage of .982. Rusek finished the weekend with a team leading 30 kills, an average 3.33 per set and had a .333 attack percentage from the outside. She also was second on the team with 29 digs, an average of 3.22 per set. Her best performance of the weekend came against a 9-3 Green Bay team, in which she had a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs in the 3-0 win. She hit .409 for the match. Rusek scored 33.5 points on the weekend and was honored with a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Rusek has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, September 28.
