Camp Report Day 10

Saturday morning was day 10 of fall camp for the Miami University football team. Several individuals stood out, while some other young guys started to make a name for themselves. Below are a few observations and notes from Dave Meyer, Assistant A.D. for Athletic Communications.
- On Thursday, Bryson Albright, Brison Burris and Kent Kern wore black jerseys during practice, signifying their "team-first" approach on the defensive side of the ball. On Saturday, Marshall Taylor, Heath Harding and Buchi Okafor added black jerseys to go along with the original three.
- The defense dominated early on Saturday. Austin Gearing, Joe Donlan and Paul Moses all added sacks in the first two periods of action. Later in the day, Dean Lemon and Quinn Calcagno picked up sacks.
- Nate Becker had one of his better practices of camp, recording a 50-yard catch in 7-on-7 and added a red zone touchdown later in the day. Becker continues to be a guy I am interested to see more of. He is a mismatch no matter where he lines up. I'm excited to see how the coaching staff uses him.
- Drew Kummer found Jared Murphy for a 65-yard touchdown during a team period. Murphy, normally known for his shorter routes, used that to his advantage to get behind the defense for the long score.
- The offense worked on several red zone opportunities, but the defensive line shut down most drives. Mitch Winter picked up a 5-yard tackle for loss and Nate Trawick blew up a running play to stall both drives.
- The drum beat for Leonard Ross continues to get louder and louder. He makes a few plays in the running game every day and has some shiftiness and speed that is hard to teach.
- Allan Koikoi had the lone interception of the day.
- The team (and SID) will have Sunday off before returning to practice on Monday morning.
