OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami University football team's second week of fall camp has begun, which is just 23 days until the home opener versus Presbyterian College on Sept. 5 at 3:30 p.m. Below are a few observations from Assistant A.D. of Communications, Dave Meyer. You can also send him questions via social media to @DaveMeyerMU.
- The defense had three players (Kent Kern, Brison Burris and Bryson Albright) in black jerseys. The jerseys were not identified with a number, which is exactly what the defense wants. Those in the black jersey were players identified as "team-first" teammates. They practice hard, go to meetings on time, show up to the dining halls ... basically are guys that live Miami football 24/7. I believe the black jerseys will change each day.
- Burris continued his impressive camp with an interception in the red zone and also recovered a fumble.
- Drew Kummer hit Sam Shisso for a 75-yard touchdown early in practice. He also connected on a 2-yard touchdown to Ryan Smith and found Chris Hudson on a slant route for a 45-yard gain.
- The other touchdown of the day was a seven-yard touchdown throw from Gus Ragland to Sam Martin.
- JT Jones and Albright recorded sacks and Marshall Taylor had an athletic interception.
- Best play of the day in my opinion was from freshman Nate Trawick. The offense threw a screen pass to the tailback and Trawick ran 15 yards down the field to make the tackle. He continues to show an outstanding motor each and every day.
