Strickler Climbs Medal Stand at MAC Day Two

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Amelia Strickler stepped onto the awards podium and put the Miami women's track and field team on the board at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday.
Strickler claimed third place in the shot put after landing her fifth throw of the day 53-6.25 to give the Red and White six points in the team standings. The RedHawks sit 11th after two days and eight completed events of competition. Akron is leading the meet with 65 points and is followed by Eastern Michigan (59.5), Kent State (49), Toledo (34), Northern Illinois (27), Central Michigan (22), Bowling Green (17), Western Michigan (13), Buffalo (11.5), Ohio (8), Miami (6) and Ball State (0).
The shot put was the lone field event with a Miami presence held in Friday's competition. On the track, MU put four runners into Saturday's event finals. Megan Beaver was the Red and White's standout on the day as she breezed into the 800m finals with a preliminary time of 2:11.49, the top time turned in for the two-lap race.
Also qualifying for Saturday's finals was Laura Bess, who posted the third-fastest 1500m time of her heat after crossing the line in 4:32.99. Sophomore Alexus Jimson-Miller will run in the 100m hurdle finals by virtue of her 14.05 prelim time, good for a sixth seed in the finals. Another Red and White performer to make the finals was Emily Hooker, who clocked a 400m lap of 56.21.
Saturday's competition will begin with the women's triple jump at 10:30 a.m. The first running event of the day is the men's 4x100m relay, which starts at 1 p.m.
