Synchronized Skating
Last Week: Behind two fantastic peformances in both its short program and free skate, Miami finished eighth in the world among the 25-team field from 20 different countries. Representing the United States as Team USA 2, the RedHawks amassed a combined score of 171.79. Here is a look back at the RedHawks' week at the 2015 ISU World Championships in Hamilton, Ontario which includes write-ups, video and photo galleries: Saturday Free Skate Recap | Friday Short Program Recap | Thursday Recap | Wednesday Recap | Tuesday Recap This Week: Although the competitive season is concluded for all three Miami synchronized skating teams, the RedHawks will peform on last time in the annual Miami University Ice Show May 1-2.
Women’s Tennis
Last Week: In a decisive result, Miami clinched at least a share of its seventh-consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season championship (21st overall), defeating Bowling Green, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Keefe Courts to move to 7-0 in MAC action. In doubles play, the pair of senior Ramona Costea and sophomore Andreea Badileanu was victorious for the 13th consecutive match with a 6-0 victory in the second flight. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks will return home for their regular-season finale as they face the Ball State Cardinals on Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts. Before the match, the three senior players--Ramona Costea, Christine Guerrazzi, and Alix Thurman--will be honored.
Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks (23-16 overall, 7-3 MAC) went 2-3 this past week. Miami dropped a midweek game to Wright State, 6-3, on Tuesday. Due to the rainy weather, the second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled. (Recap) Miami gained a split with Bowling Green in its doubleheader on Friday. The RedHawks took a 4-1 victory in the opener. Miami then nearly made a comeback from an early 4-0 deficit, but ultimately fell, 4-3, in the nightcap. (Recap) The RedHawks shut out Toledo in a 5-0 victory on Saturday. (Recap) Miami dropped its weekend finale to Toledo, 3-0, on Sunday. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks return to action this weekend when they host Northern Illinois for a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. Miami then welcomes Western Michigan to Oxford for single games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The entire weekend is Alumni weekend and there will be a special Alumni slow-pitch softball game after Saturday’s contest.
Men’s Track & Field
Last Week: The RedHawks hosted their second-straight outdoor meet over the weekend as they competed in the All-Ohio Championships. The first day of competition saw Tyler Yee capture the javelin throw with a season-best 205-7, topping his closest competitor by over 10 feet (Recap). Saturday’s competition featured a first-place finish from Joe Stewart (5000m; 14:28.62) and runner-up performances from Andrew Dusing (800m; 1:50.56), Skyler Coburn (400m hurdles; 53.28), Stephen Biebelhausen (1500m; 3:53.09), Zane Shreve (decathlon; 5,435 points) and Peter Stefanski (high jump; 6-8.75) to finish second in the Division I team standings with 130 points (Recap). This Week: Miami heads out to Indiana for the Hoosier Invitational on Saturday.
Women’s Track & Field
Last Week: Miami’s women emerged victorious at the two-day All-Ohio Championships, which it served as the host for. Anna Lamb got the RedHawks started on the right foot as she won the 10,000m in her season debut, clocking a time of 37:13.48 while Aaryn Gray placed second in the javelin (119-11) and Martha Szekely took fourth in the hammer throw (180-8) to contribute points on day one for the Red and White (Recap). On day two, Miami posted the top 4x100m (47.50) and 4x400m (3:49.40) relay times while Amelia Strickler claimed the shot put by launching an outdoor best 53-11.75 to help secure the first-place finish (Recap). This Week: The Red and White are off until hosting the RedHawk Invitational (April 25) and sending select runners to the Drake Relays (April 22-26).
Golf
Last Week: Miami finished in sixth place at the Hoosier Invitational over the weekend. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) This Week: Miami will return to action next weekend at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Saturday and finish the event with one final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
