OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week hockey senior Blake Coleman and sophomore diver Pei Lin are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of March 16-22.
Coleman continued his tremendous postseason by recording points in both NCHC Frozen Faceoff games over the weekend. The senior dished out an assist in Friday's semifinal victory over Denver and netted his second-career hat trick against St. Cloud State in Saturday's championship, accounting for all three Miami goals in its 3-2 victory. That effort earned the Plano, Texas native NCHC Tournament MVP honors as he finished the conference tournament with 12 points (7g, 5a) in and four multi-point games in the five outings to deliver Miami its second conference tournament title in program history.
This is the third time this season and fourth time in his career that Coleman has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. It is also the second consecutive week he has earned the honor.
Lin seized All-America honors in the three-meter dive and Honorable Mention All-America accolades in the one-meter dive last week at the NCAA Championships. Lin capped an impressive season in her last event of the year as she finished runner-up in the 3-meter dive, marking the best finish by a Miami women’s swimmer or diver at an NCAA Championship in program history. Her score of 409.70 in the three-meter event broke her own school and Mid-American Conference record and was a mere 0.55 points behind the national champion. In the one-meter dive, Lin recorded a score of 321.40 to finish in 10th place.
This is the second time this season and in her career that Lin has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week. It is also the second consecutive week she has earned the honor.
