The Mid-American Conference office announced this morning that junior JT Jones was the MAC East Defensive Player of the week following his efforts versus Eastern Michigan. It is the second consecutive week that a RedHawk earned this award after Brison Burris was named defensive player of the week following the Buffalo contest.
Jones had one of the best defensive games in RedHawk football history, finishing a 28-13 win over Eastern Michigan with a career-high seven tackles and four sacks. His four sacks rank tops in school and seventh in MAC history.
The defensive end was part of a unit that allowed just 10 first downs and 192 yards of total offense to a team that was averaging 415 yards per game entering last Saturday's contest. Miami finished the game with a school record nine sacks, surpassing the previous mark of eight, established back in 1999.
Jones and the RedHawks play host to Akron this Saturday (Nov. 14) at noon.
