OXFORD, Ohio—Miami University’s football team dropped a 41-10 decision to the Western Michigan Broncos on a blustery Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium. The RedHawks dropped to 2-8 on the season and 2-4 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Broncos upped their record to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in MAC play.
The Broncos struck first, scoring on a 55-yard run by Jarvion Franklin to punctuate a three-play drive. The extra point gave WMU a 7-0 lead at the 7:59 mark in the first quarter. Western Michigan tacked on 14 more points with a 4-yard rushing touchdown by Franklin at the 12:02 mark of the second quarter and a 5-yard carry for a score by Zach Terrell with 9:14 to go in the first half to take a 21-0 lead.
Miami came back with 10-unanswered points as senior running back Dawan Scott hauled in a 19-yard touchdown catch from senior quarterback Andrew Hendrix with 8:15 to go in the second quarter. Junior kicker Kaleb Patterson then kicked a 52-yard field goal at the 1:50 mark to match a career-long that he established last year against Akron to put Miami within 11 points, 21-10. With under two minutes remaining in the half, the Broncos managed to drive the ball down the field and kicked a 23-yard field goal with one second remaining in the half to carry a 24-10 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all WMU as the Broncos scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, both on 5-yard runs, and then kicked a 27-yard field goal with 11:44 to go in the fourth quarter to post a 41-10 advantage.
The Broncos amassed 499 yards of total offense and picked off two Miami passes. The RedHawks compiled 236 yards of offense and recovered a Bronco fumble. Sophomore defensive end J’Terius Jones and senior cornerback Quinten Rollins led all players with nine tackles apiece.
Miami has a week off before traveling to Central Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 15.
