Listed below is a recap of last week's results as well as a look ahead at this week's games. Enjoy!
Hockey
Last week: The third-ranked and top-seeded RedHawks (24-10-5) closed out their best-of-three CCHA Tournament quarterfinal series with back-to-back victories over No.11-seed Michigan State. After dropping Game 1 on Friday, Miami defeated the Spartans, 4-1, in Game 2 on Saturday, as Austin Czarnik led the team with a pair of goals. On Sunday, the 'Hawks earned another 4-1 win in a decisive Game 3 thanks in part to Sean Kuraly, who recorded his first multi-goal game of his career (FULL STORY). For a photo gallery, click HERE. This week: Miami advances to the CCHA Tournament semifinals in Detroit, where it will play No. 7-seed Michigan on Saturday at Joe Louis Arena. Puck drop is 4:35 p.m. Should the RedHawks win their semifinal game, they would advance to the CCHA Tournament final on Sunday.
Men's Basketball
Last week: The 11th-seeded RedHawks upset sixth-seeded Bowling Green in the first round of the MAC Tournament on Monday, 63-52, in Bowling Green. Jon Harris scored a team-high 14 points, while Reggie Johnson tallied 12 points (FULL STORY). Miami then moved on to the second round, where it lost to No. 7-seed Eastern Michigan on Wednesday in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena (FULL STORY). The 'Hawks finished the season with a 9-22 overall record.
Women's Basketball
Last week: The sixth-seeded RedHawks, who defeated Ohio in the first round of the MAC Tournament last Sunday, fell to seventh-seeded Buffalo, 82-70, in the second round on Wednesday in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena. Kirsten Olowinski scored a game-high 25 points, while Courtney Osborn had 19 points (FULL STORY). This week: Miami (19-12) is under consideration for postseason play. The 'Hawks could receive a bid to play in the WNIT or WBI. Check MURedHawks.com late Monday night or Tuesday morning for an update.
Baseball
Last week: The RedHawks (7-8) concluded the Russ Matt Invitational, winning five out of seven games. Miami, which defeated Illinois State and Fairfield last Saturday and Sunday to open the invitational, also beat Long Island, North Dakota State and Navy. MU's two losses came against Army and Valparaiso. For full results and individual game recaps, click HERE. This week: The 'Hawks play their first home game of the season against Indiana on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The team then travels to play a road contest against the Hoosiers on Wednesday in Bloomington, Ind. at 6 p.m. Miami rounds out the week, hosting a three game series against Eastern Michigan Friday through Sunday.
Softball
Last week: The RedHawks (4-18) dropped five of seven games in the San Diego Classic in San Diego, Calif. Miami opened the tournament dropping a doubleheader to Southern Utah and San Diego State on Wednesday. After a win over UT-Arlington on Thursday, the 'Hawks then fell to Seton Hall and Long Beach on Friday. MU concluded the Classic with a victory over Colorado State and loss to Harvard on Saturday. For full results and individual game recaps, click HERE. This week: Miami hosts its first home series of the season on Tuesday, as plays a doubleheader against Morehead State. The first game starts at 2 p.m., while the later game will begin at 4 p.m. The 'Hawks then begin MAC play on the road Friday through Sunday. MU plays a doubleheader against Toledo on Friday, before traveling to play a two-game set against Bowling Green on Saturday and Sunday.
Tennis
Last week: Miami made their way to Florida for two road games against UCF and South Florida. The RedHawks fell to the Knights, 5-2, on Wednesday in Orlando, and later dropped another 5-2 decision to South Florida on Thursday in Tampa. For full results and individual game recaps, click HERE. This week: After playing nine straight matches on the road, Miami returns to Oxford next Saturday for its conference opener. The four-time defending MAC Champion RedHawks meet Ball State at 1 p.m. on the Hepburn Courts.
Women's Track & Field
Last week: With a limited travel squad, Miami kicked off its 2013 outdoor season under warm, sunny skies at the Black and Gold Challenge, hosted by Central Florida at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex Saturday, winning one event in its debut meet. The RedHawks combined to post eight top-five finishes, as well, despite sending just nine competitors to the meet (FULL STORY). This week: The RedHawks return to action Friday and Saturday, when they will once again head south to the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
Men's Track & Field
Last week: Miami last competed in the Cincinnati Dual Meet in Columbus, Ohio on March 1. For full results and individual meet recaps, click HERE. This week: The RedHawks begin their outdoor season, traveling to compete in the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational Friday and Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.
Golf
Last week: The RedHawks concluded the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, finishing 10th out of 12 teams Tuesday in Pinehurst, N.C. For full results and individual meet recaps, click HERE. This week: Miami has a week off before it travels to Lake Worth, Fla. for the FAU Spring Break Classic Friday, March 29 through Sunday, March 31.
