Miami at Missouri
Sept. 3, 2011 - Memorial Stadium - Columbia, Mo.
- In addition to a Fox Sports national audience, the Miami-Missouri game was broadcast on the Armed Forces Network. It was seen in 175 countries and at sea on all U.S. Navy ships.
- The contest was the second in the series, which started last year (Sept. 25) with a 51-13 Missouri victory in Columbia. In a strange twist of non-conference scheduling, the teams will conclude the 2-for-1 contract with a third meeting in as many years next Sept. 22 in Oxford.
- Miami had a six-game winning streak snapped dating back to last year. The loss also stopped a five -game run of success on the road.
- The Missouri game marked the head coaching debut of 1982 graduate Don Treadwell. Miami has a record of 20-11-3 when playing with a new field leader. Including Lance Guidry's win at the 2011 GoDaddy.com Bowl, only two of the last seven head coaches have started their careers 1-0.
- Miami is 7-19 against ranked opponents since 1981. Last year, the RedHawks went 1-2 against top 25 opponents, defeating No. 23/24 Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship, but losing at Florida and Missouri.
- Miami's travel roster of 70 included 10 true freshmen and 7 redshirt freshmen. Of those, five made their RedHawk debuts - Orne Bey (RS), Dawon Scott, Brison Burris, David Frazier, and Tyler Tucker.
- After holding Missouri to a three-and-out situation, Miami drove 56 yards on 12 plays, but Mason Krysinski missed a 41-yard field goal. It was Krysinski's first career field goal attempt after he kicked three extra points at Buffalo in his only other appearance.
- Miami was down 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, a significant improvement from last year's 21-0 deficit after 15 minutes. The RedHawks held a 103 to 91 advantage on total offense after one quarter Saturday.
- Dayonne Nunley recorded Miami's first takeaway of the season, picking off a James Franklin pass in the third quarter. It was the seventh career pick for the sophomore and second in as many games. He returned one 52 yards for a touchdown in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.
- Erik Finklea tallied Miami's first points of 2011, running into the endzone from 10 yards out during the third quarter. It was his first career touchdown. However, the extra point was missed, leaving Miami with a 10-6 deficit. Finklea, in his first game as a running back after moving to offense in fall camp, carried 19 times for 71 yards.
- Pat Hinkel led the Miami defense with nine tackles, seven of the solo variety.
- Miami dominated time of possession Saturday, holding the ball over 8 minutes in each of the first three quarters and 33:44 overall. The RedHawks won the battle of control in 13 of the 14 games last year.
