CLEVELAND - Miami University redshirt junior David Eichenberger has been tabbed Mid-American Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. He is the second RedHawk to win the weekly award this year, joining junior Jarrod Eick, who claimed the honor on Sept. 13.
Eichenberger (Plainfield, Ind.) led Miami to its third team title of the season Saturday at the LSU Invitational, as Miami ran in the meet for the first time. He was Miami's top finisher, earning runner-up honors overall in 27:09.9. His second-place finish was a career-best finish for Eichenberger and was his first time being Miami's top finisher this year. He finished 10 ticks behind the race's winner in a field of 97 runners from 14 teams, including host and SEC member LSU. Eichenberger's two points helped Miami beat the runner-up Tigers by 27 points.
The weekly honor is the second of Eichenberger's career, also receiving MAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week Sept. 22 last year when he finished 11th at the Spartan Invitational. He was also MAC Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week Nov. 5 last season after earning First-Team All-MAC honors at the MAC Championship by placing fourth. Eichenberger was named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, as well.
Eichenberger and the RedHawks return to action Friday when Miami looks to defend its title at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio.
