Miami Postgame Quotes
Bowling Green at Miami
Sept. 24, 2011 - Yager Stadium - Oxford, Ohio
Miami Head Coach Don Treadwell
On the game
"First off my hats off for a tremendous performance by Bowling Green. They played well, were hungry and kept going even when they didn't have a few things go their way. It's disappointing for us; it was not one of our better performances of the first three games. The good thing for us as coaches is that there were a number of correctable errors, and I'm sure once we go back to the film we'll be able to correct the things that need to be corrected."
On the defense
"Our defense did a tremendous job at the beginning of the game, to the point where they had to jump start us by scoring first. We've challenged them and they've responded. We're very pleased with how they've stepped to the forefront in these three games. Are they playing perfect? No, but it just takes one error to swing the momentum, and it was a game of momentum today."
On the kicking game
"Well we had one blocked on the right side last week and this week we had one blocked on the left side. We had a field goal at the end of the half which was tremendous, but then at the end we missed an extra point. So yes, it's frustrating, but at this point we have who we have, so we have to keep communicating and working it out. I don't think anyone is satisfied."
On offensive line injuries
"Those are some of the growing pains. That's on us as coaches too. If it is something negative, we need to make sure we have the answers. There are enough different protections that we can do to help our quarterback out and gel our offensive line."
Junior Defensive Lineman Austin Brown
On the game
"We just didn't come to play today. They were the better team today, so we lost the game." On facing short fields on defense ... "That's why we play defense. We're a tough group of kids, young men really. We've been put in those situations before and we know what to do. We just didn't get it done today."
Junior Quarterback Zac Dysert
On the game
"I guess you could say we were flat. We weren't on the same page, that's what killed us today. They played a great game and beat us today, that's all you can really say."
On Bowling Green's second half changes
"They did make some corrections in the second half that we did not make some adjustments too. But they just played better than us overall today."
On what they will do to prepare for next week
"You've just got to watch film, learn from it and make sure it never happens again."
Senior Safety Anthony Kokal
On BG's quarterback (Matt Schilz) scrambling
"That's what (the secondary) is prepared for. There is no guarantee that the line is going to get to the passer, and our job is to cover wide receivers. If they complete a pass that is our fault, it is no one else's fault. Our defensive line was great all day. They came out, had a bunch of sacks and hurries. You can't take anything away from them because they played their hearts out. If there is any type of pass, we're the secondary, that's on us."
On the 96-yard touchdown run
"It's tough to see what happened without watching film of it. Once we see that, we'll get it corrected. There is no telling if they found a gap or they pulled an extra blocker. We played well and responded after that. Sometimes you can have those explosion plays happen. The biggest thing you can do is just play the next play and forget about it, it's done."
