OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore wide receiver Nick Harwell and junior midfielder Jess Kodiak have been selected as Miami's Male and Female Athletes of the Week, respectively, for week five, after both student-athletes had career weeks on the field.

Harwell (Missouri City, Texas) caught a dozen passes for 162 yards in Miami's near upset at Minnesota last Saturday. His 12 catches were a career high and tied for fourth-best on the RedHawks' single-game list. Among the 162 yards he gained was a 66-yard reception in the first quarter that led to Miami taking a 3-0 lead over the Golden Gophers. If not for the fact that Harwell played his first game of the season against Minnesota, he would be ranked No. 1 in the NCAA for average receptions and No. 2 for average yards.

Kodiak (Naperville, Ill.) had a career weekend while leading Miami Soccer to a pair of victories over Evansville and Indiana State. In the two matches, she combined for two goals and three assists for a total of seven points. In Friday's 4-3 win over Evansville, Kodiak had a hand in all four goals, scoring two while assisting on the other two goals. The six points marked a career high while the two goals were also a career high as she notched her first multi-goal game. The two helpers tied a career high. Her second goal of the night turned out to be the game-winner. Sunday, she earned the assist on Miami's game-winning goal in overtime that gave the 'Hawks a 2-1 win over ISU and extended their winning streak to three games.
Football returns to the field Saturday for its home and Mid-American Conference opener when the RedHawks take on Bowling Green at 1 p.m. at Yager Stadium. Women's soccer also opens MAC action this weekend, playing at Kent State Friday at 4 p.m. and at Buffalo on Sunday at noon.
