Miami at Minnesota
Sept. 17, 2011 - TCF Bank Stadium - Minneapolis, Minn.
- Minnesota has won all three meetings in the series, which opened in 1988 (35-3) and continued in 2007 (41-35 in three overtimes). The Golden Gophers are scheduled to visit Oxford on Sept. 6, 2014.
- Miami now stands 12-42-2 all-time against current members of the Big Ten Conference. The RedHawks' last victory against the league came over Northwestern in 2003 (44-14).
- Miami entered the game with a 14-game road losing streak against non-conference opponents. The RedHawks last posted a non-league victory away from home on Oct. 29, 2005 at Temple.
- Senior Cory Brown joined season captains Zac Dysert and Anthony Kokal for the coin toss on Saturday. Minnesota won the toss and deferred, leaving Miami to receive.
- Mason Krysinski kicked his first career field goal on the opening drive. He converted a 22-yarder after missing on his first career attempt two weeks ago at Missouri. With a successful PAT shortly before halftime, he tallied his fourth point, topping the three extra points he scored against Buffalo in his only appearance of 2010.
- True freshman Zach Lewis made his first career appearance - and start - against the Golden Gophers. He opened at right tackle in place of Matt Kennedy (injured).
- Junior quarterback Zac Dysert moved into fifth place on Miami's career passing list Saturday with a 325-yard performance. He now has 5,536 yards, overtaking Daniel Raudabaugh (5,352 from 2006-09). He made the jump on a five-yard completion to Nick Harwell late in the second quarter.
- Zac Dysert topped the 300-yard mark passing for the seventh time in his career. He finished the game with 325 yards.
- Nick Harwell, who missed the opening game for disciplinary reasons, made an impact on the first series. Though he did not start, his 66-yard reception on the third play of the game turned a third-and-five at the Miami 25 into first-and-goal at the Minnesota 9.
- Harwell finished the game with a team-high 162 yards receiving, the third time in his career he has hit the century mark. As a true freshman last year, he had a school-record 219 yards vs. Ohio and 125 vs. Bowling Green. His career-high 12 catches, marking the third time has reached double digits, tied Eddie Tillitz (at Hawaii, 2001) for fourth most on Miami's single-game chart.
- Erik Finklea's touchdown run just before halftime was his second of the season for the RedHawks. He tallied Miami's only points against Missouri.
- Minnesota's final possession total of 34:59 marked just the second time in the last 18 games (dating back to 2009) that an opponent held the ball more than Miami. The RedHawks tallied only 5:04 of possession in the first quarter and 3:08 in the third.
- True freshman Dawan Scott caught his first career touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. He and Zac Dysert connected on a scrambling 26-yarder.
- The last time an opponent was credited with a punt return touchdown was on Oct. 24, 2009 by Northern Illinois. However, the Huskies' play was a conventional return. The last opponent to block a punt for a score was Northwestern in a 21-3 Wildcat win on Aug. 31, 2004.
- Miami opens its home schedule next week against Bowling Green at 1 p.m. at Yager Stadium. The game, which will be broadcast on ESPN3, is expected to have a near-capacity crowd.
