OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's five All-Decade offensive linemen -- Jacob Bell, Todd Londot, Alex Sulfsted, current star Brandon Brooks and Nate Bunce -- would make the all-star squad of nearly any Mid-American Conference football program.
Chosen by the hundreds of Miami University fans and media who submitted ballots to select the greatest RedHawk football players of the first decade of the 21st Century (2000-2010), all five men excelled as both run blockers and pass protectors.
Receiving strong consideration for All-Decade honors were runners-up Phil Hawk, Bob Gulley, Frank Smith, Nate Williams and current RedHawk Matt Kennedy.
Jacob Bell: A four-year letter winner from 2000-03, Bell was a first-team All-MAC selection as a senior, blocking for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Then head coach Terry Hoeppner and his staff twice selected Bell as Miami's most valuable offensive lineman. Born in Cleveland, Bell was selected to the NFL's All-Rookie team in 2004. He currently is a member of the St. Louis Rams.
Todd Londot: A two-time choice as Miami's most valuable offensive lineman (2004 & '05), Londot lettered from 2002-05. He was a second-team All-MAC honoree as both a junior and as a senior, and served as a team co-captain. Londot was a key protector of quarterbacks Roethlisberger and Josh Betts. He signed with the NFL's New York Giants as a free agent.
ALEX SULFSTED: A Miami senior in 2000, he was the team's nominee for the MAC's Vern Smith Award. Sulfsted was a bone-crushing blocker for two of the school's greatest players during his time in Oxford, running back Travis Prentice and quarterback Mike Bath.
Brandon Brooks: Entering his fifth and final season as a RedHawk, the 6-5, 350-pounder has thus far earned varsity letters from 2008-10. Brooks was sidelined by an injury for part of last season, but came back to help lead Miami to victories in each of its last six games, beat Northern Illinois in the MAC title game, and pace the RedHawks to a victory at the 2011 GoDaddy.com Bowl. He's been chosen by most pre-season magazines to be an All-MAC performer in 2011.
Nate Bunce: During the memorable 2003 season, Bunce helped lead Miami to a MAC championship, 13 consecutive victories and a No. 10 ranking in the final national poll. The 2004 RedHawks also won the MAC East title with a 7-1 conference record. During Bunce's three letter-winning seasons from 2003-05, Miami won 20 of 24 MAC games.
On Wednesday, July 6, MURedHawks.com will name the fans' and media's three choices as Miami's All-Decade wide receivers.
