OXFORD, Ohio -- Turkeys for Touchdowns, a joint effort between the Miami RedHawks football program and Kroger, yielded a record donation for the Oxford Community Choice Pantry this year.
During the 2011 season, each of Miami's 36 touchdowns resulted in six turkeys being donated, meaning the pantry and Executive Director Mike Johnson received a total of 216 turkeys. The figures the past two years were 170 in 2010 and 150 in 2009.
On Wednesday afternoon, Oxford store manager Ed Begley hosted several RedHawks for the presentation. They also visited with fans while taking turns bagging groceries.
Kroger is the exclusive marketplace of the Miami RedHawks with the current agreement calling for one more year of the program. However, Kroger recently signed a corporate sponsor renewal that extends through 2015.
