OXFORD, Ohio -- Junior quarterback Zac Dysert (Ada) and senior linebacker Ryan Kennedy (Libertyville, IL) were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year for the Miami Football program, Head Coach Don Treadwell announced Sunday (Dec. 11) at the team's annual award banquet.
Sophomore punter Zac Murphy (Cincinnati) collected Special Teams Player of the Year, while senior defensive back Anthony Kokal (Warren) was the 2011 Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
Finally, the Scout Team Players of the Year were J.J. Greenwood (Middletown) and MITCH KROTZ (Madison), for the offensive and defensive units, respectively.
Dysert directed the Miami offense to 372.9 yards of total offense per game, including almost 300 through the air. He threw for 3,513 yards, the second-highest season total in school history, while completing 65.8 percent of his attempts. He now ranks second all-time at Miami with 8,530 yards, a pace that is ahead of the school record.
Kennedy finished third on the team in tackles with 75 (43 UA, 32 A) despite missing the season opener at Missouri with an injury. He totalled three sacks and 8 1/2 tackles for losses, reaching double figures in stops three times. Kennedy made his only interception of the year against Cincinnati.
Murphy was Miami's punter, averaging 39.1 yards per kick with a long of 66 yards at Ohio. He booted seven attempts over 50 yards and knocked 13 tries inside the 20.
Already the holder of an undergraduate degree from Miami, Kokal will complete a master's in accountancy at the end of the school year. He was the team leader in tackles with 91 (49 UA, 42 A) and had a team-best three forced fumbles. Five of his stops went for lost yardage with two credited as sacks, while he added an interception against Buffalo.
Greenwood and Krotz both started the year on the scout team but earned promotions to the travel squad during the year. While Greenwood never saw official action, Krotz appeared on kickoff coverage in four of the final five games, registering his first career tackle, an assist, vs. Buffalo.
