OXFORD, Ohio -- It's the next-to-last weekend of the 2010 NFL playoffs and the Miami football alumni trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Crabtree and JERRY ANGELO all have lofty aspirations. In fact, the adjective "super" has become an oft-used word in their vocabulary this week in media interviews. That's super with a capital 'S', as in Super Bowl.
With a victory in their respective games, at least one of the three Miami men is assured of spending the first week of February in metropolitan Dallas for Super Bowl XLV.
At Chicago's Soldier Field, the NFC Championship Game matches the Green Bay Packers, featuring former RedHawk tight end Tom Crabtree, against the Chicago Bears, headed by MU alumnus and Bears General Manager JERRY ANGELO. Crabtree caught four passes for 61 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown catch in Green Bay's opening-round game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Angelo's Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday in their opening playoff game.
And at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, Steeler quarterback and Miami alumnus Ben Roethlisberger aims for his third appearance at the NFL mecca. With an all-time record of 9-2 in the playoffs, Roethlisberger's winning percentage of nearly 82 percent is second only to that of Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr. With Big Ben as signal-caller, the Steelers are a perfect 2-0 in Super Bowl action.
