What a great way to go out!
The week in Mobile was one of the best weeks of my life. The people down there took such great care of us. I think the thing that made the week the most special was how the bowl was really a culmination of five years of hard work. There was a period of time where I was not sure a bowl game would ever be possible. The seniors on the team have been through so much and have put in a ton of work. To see the efforts pay off really made the week an amazing experience.
The game itself was a blast. The guys were definitely excited to play... especially after Coach Guidry's pregame speech that most of the world has now seen on ESPN. We came out of the gates hyped and ready. MTSU was prepared as well and the first half was a back-and-forth battle. Our coaches made adjustments at halftime and turnovers really turned the game into our favor in the second half.
Ladd-Peebles Stadium was a great place to play. The fans were right on top of the field and both teams had strong fan support. I was pumped to see all the Miami Red in the stands and was so thankful for the support of Miami Nation. Wearing the Red and White has been such a blessing in my life. I am so proud to claim Miami and am so proud to be a Redhawk. I will certainly keep in close contact with the program and with the university.
I thought I might sum up the week with a quick Top 10 List for the highlights of the week:
- 10. Police Escorts - Wherever we went in Mobile, we had the best police escorts ever. We zipped in and out of traffic all week. I wish I could get this treatment all the time.
- 9. Greg and Marie - This was the couple who were in charge of our hospitality. They are an awesome couple and took care of us all week like we were their own children.
- 8. FOOD - I got on the scale when I got back to Oxford and I had officially gained THREE pounds. I would have been a linebacker if I lived down in Mobile earlier in my life.
- 7. Coin toss with Danica Patrick - When the captains went out for the coin toss I stood right next to Danica Patrick. I was trying to focus on the game...but it was difficult.
- 6. The helmets - How sweet were those throwback helmets? Wearing the helmet that carried all the tradition of Miami Football was an honor and is a memory I will always keep.
- 5. Winning the bowling tournament - Complete and total domination. I guess our team bowling practices in Oxford really paid off.
- 4. Dayonne Nunley's Pick 6 - When Dayonne intercepted that ball and took it back for a touchdown, the momentum swung our way and I knew we were going to win.
- 3. Coach Guidry's pregame speech - I was hyped!
- 2. Friends, family, fans, and alumni - The support I felt before, during, and after the game from so many people was unbelievable. Miami Nation is a privilege to be a part of.
- 1. Bringing back a bowl championship to a university I have grown to love. Proud to be a RedHawk.
Love and Honor,
JG
