COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Miami fell behind 21-0 after the first quarter and never recovered Saturday in a 51-13 loss at 24th-ranked Missouri. Senior Trevor Cook kicked two field goals and Austin Boucher completed a touchdown pass to Jamal Rogers to account for the RedHawk scoring.
Missouri out-gained Miami 469-316 in total offense, including 236 to 70 on the ground. Zac Dysert completed 20 of 27 passes for 178 yards, with Armand Robinson catching 10 passes for 99 yards. The double-digit effort was his second of the season and fourth of his career.
A turnover on the first play of the game put Miami down 7-0 after just eight seconds. Carl Gettis returned a Robinson fumble 19 yards to the endzone. The Tigers (4-0) marched 94 yards on five plays on its first offensive possession to expand their lead to 14-0. Kendial Lawrence covered the final 39 yards from scrimmage on a burst through the right side. After Mizzou held Miami on downs, the Tigers added seven more points, culminating an eight-play, 71-yard drive with 28-yard run by Henry Josey.
A Zac Dysert interception led to Missouri's fourth touchdown. Michael Sam picked off a pass in the flat and returned it to the endzone, but a block-in-the-back penalty placed the ball at the Miami 38. However, it took just four plays to increase the margin to 28-0
Miami got on the scoreboard with 6:28 left in the half on Cook's sixth straight make this season. The drive covered 73 yards over eight plays, leaving the score 28-3 at intermission.
Missouri opened the second half with a 71-yard touchdown drive and never looked back. Cook kicked his second field goal of the game -- a season-long 40-yarder -- and Boucher connected with Rogers for his first career touchdown pass with 1:40 remaining. The 12-yard completion capped a 15-play, 98-yard drive that lasted almost eight minutes (7:51).
Miami (2-2) returns home and to Mid-American Conference play next week when it hosts Kent State at 1 p.m. The game will serve as Family Weekend on campus.
