On Friday, September 10th eager Boy Scouts from the Dan Beard Council of Southwestern Ohio came to Miami for a campout. The fourth annual event between the Dan Beard Council and Miami Athletics partnership began as a way to provide opportunities to youth in the community. "The partnership presents a great opportunity to present the University and Collegiate Athletics to future leaders, Boy Scouts," stated Anthony J. Azama, Director of Marketing.
The annual camp out started with the Scouts pitching their tents on the west lawn of Millett Hall and then proceeding to Yager Stadium to watch a movie on the video board. After the movie was completed, the Scouts took to their camp sight and enjoyed their `Night under the Stars' at Miami.
Saturday morning was an early rise, as the Scout broke down their camps and prepared for their day ahead. The Miami Men's Basketball team also made an early morning appearance at Millett Hall when the kids woke up. Every Boy Scout was served breakfast by the Men's Basketball team. Once breakfast was completed, the Boy Scouts were able to enjoy time with the Men's Basketball team.
The Scouts then headed out and to the several beautiful nature trails around Oxford for a fun educational experience, and visited the Goggin Ice Center for an open skating experience. All the Scouts returned to Millett for Tailgate Town and prepared for the football game where they lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, as September 11th was Military Appreciate Day.
