Miami Sports Marketing Department provides an opportunity to current Miami Students to become members of the Miami Sports Marketing Academy. Miami students go through a competitive process which includes phone interview, presentation and written essay. "We believe 'the process' prepares our students for the job market" states Ellie Zabielski, program coordinator and Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions. Throughout the academic year, these 'team members' assist the Marketing staff with in-office work, sales, game day planning and presentation. Students who are in Oxford during the summer have the opportunity to be involved with research and new initiative planning.
The summer season is a time where the Athletic staff is busy hosting meetings, reviewing the past seasons and analyzing research in preparation for the upcoming seasons. The Sports Marketing Academy is an integral part of the Marketing Staff.
This summer five Miami students, including two Student-Athletes are assisting the Marketing Department .

How long have you worked with Sports Marketing? since May 2010
What is your favorite aspect about working in Athletics? Before working in Athletics, I was only exposed to the game-day experience of most sporting events; besides my own sport, swimming. Seeing what goes on behind the scenes in order to hold successful athletic events is really neat - a ton of planning, concentration on the details, and organization must happen months before the actual athletic competition.
What are you looking forward to most this season? This year as a senior captain of the swim team, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to help lead the RedHawks to a MAC Championship. I'm really excited to see what our team can accomplish in 2010-2011 and to welcome the incoming freshmen to our program.
What projects are you working on this summer? I'm working on a wide assortment of projects, which include: Profit and Loss Analyses, gathering information for the University Marketing consultant 160over90, comparing bids for print jobs, organizing communications flow charts, and other daily tasks.
