After a busy weekend hosting nearly 40 teams in 10 events over three days, Miami Athletics hosts the Joe Nuxhall Baseball Classic Tuesday and Wednesday and has two fall sports in spring exhibition action at home this weekend with all of the spring sport teams hitting the road for competition this weekend.

Nearly 1,000 fans gathered last Monday in a send-off pep rally for the hockey team as they participated in the Frozen Four. Miami (29-8-7) fell short of returning to the national title game with a 7-1 loss to Boston College in the national semifinals. (RECAP) Sophomore goalie Cody Reichard was named Second-Team West All-America by the American Hockey Coaches Association. (RELEASE) Additionally, USA Hockey has announced the creation of The Brendan Burke Internship, an annual 12-month internship for a recent college graduate interested in pursuing hockey operations as a career. The internship has been established in memory of Brendan Burke. (RELEASE) In a bit of bittersweet news, assistant coach Chris Bergeron, who has been a coach with the RedHawks for 10 seasons, has been hired as the head coach at Bowling Green. Many thanks to Coach Bergeron for his years of dedication to the program and best wishes to him and his family.
Men's and women's track and field each earned first-place finishes among 15-team fields at the Miami Invitational.
The men's team won the invitational by nearly 100 points and had seven first-place finishes, led by junior Michael McCarty's three top finishes. McCarty captured the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 14.45 seconds, which ranks him eighth all-time at Miami. He won the 400-meter hurdles in 53.68 and seized the long jump with a season-best leap of 23-6.25 (7.17m). (RECAP)
The women's team had an equally dominant performance, with seven first-place finishes en route to a nearly 90-point win at the Miami Invitational. The RedHawks earned wins in the 800-menter run, 1500-meter run, 5000-menter run, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. Sophomore Diona Graves' personal best time of 24.82 to win the 200-meter dash ranks her eighth all-time at Miami. (RECAP) Congratulations also go out to Amanda Mirochna, who was named the MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week last week. (RELEASE)
Both Miami's men's and women's track and field teams compete next weekend at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio University April 16-17. The RedHawks then host the RedHawk Invitational, their second meet of 2010, the following weekend.

Following a hard-fought 5-2 non-conference loss to Louisville last Friday in its final home match of the season (RECAP), the women's tennis team (11-6; 4-0) extended its Mid-American Conference regular-season win streak to 13 with a 6-1 triumph at Ball State on Saturday. (RECAP) Junior Megan Martzolf improved to an impressive 17-0 at No. 3 singles with two wins in the third flight last weekend. The team also was honored and received their championships rings prior to last Friday's baseball game for winning both the 2009 MAC regular-season and tournament titles. Miami hits the road for its final four MAC matches, beginning with key tilts at Buffalo and Akron this weekend.
After going 3-1 last week, baseball (14-16; 3-6 MAC) prepares to host Xavier, Cincinnati and Wright State in the Joe Nuxhall Classic this Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a three-game series at Western Michigan. Last week, the RedHawks picked up a 5-3 win at Xavier on Tuesday. (RECAP) Miami opened its series with Northern Illinois with a 6-1 win on Friday. Junior right fielder Adam Eaton was a home run short of the cycle, going 4-for-5 against the Huskies on Friday. (RECAP) Miami came back with a 5-1 win on Saturday with pitchers freshman Brooks Fiala and sophomore Jordan Jankowski combining to allow just three hits while striking out 11 batters. (RECAP) Miami grabbed an early lead in Sunday's series finale but was unable to produce any more runs while Northern Illinois chipped away at the deficit and scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning to steal a 5-4 victory. (RECAP) Miami hosts Xavier at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the day's second game and also will play at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Schoenly, who recorded her 100th career win, all coming at Miami, with the RedHawk softball team's doubleheader sweep of Eastern Michigan on Friday! Additionally, freshman first baseman Shannon Tillett was tabbed the MAC East Division Player of the week last week. (RELEASE) The RedHawks (19-16; 4-2 MAC) went 5-1 last week. Miami won a mid-week non-conference doubleheader at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, posting a 2-0 win in the first game and a 6-4 triumph in the nightcap. (RECAP) On Friday, the RedHawks tallied a 3-1 win in the opening game with Eastern Michigan before posting a 10-1 five-inning win against the Eagles in the second game. (RECAP) On Saturday, the RedHawks were edged by Central Michigan, 1-0. (RECAP) The RedHawks came back on Sunday with an 8-4 win to round out the weekend series. (RECAP) Miami travels to Kent State for a doubleheader on Friday and then plays single games at Buffalo Saturday and Sunday.
The golf team led the UK Bluegrass Invitational after two rounds but finished in fourth place among the 24-team field, just three strokes of tournament winner Murray State. Juniors Nathan Sutherland and Michael Drobnick paced the RedHawks, each tying for 11th place. (RECAP) Miami returns to action next weekend when it participates in the Hawkeye Invitational Apr. 17-18.
Football concluded its spring practices with the annual Red vs. White game on Saturday afternoon. The White Team posted a 17-7 win over the Red Team.
