OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami RedHawks, 2010 champions of the Mid-American Conference and America's most improved college football team, are headed south to take on Middle Tennessee State of the Sun Belt Conference in the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Kickoff for the January 6 game is 8 p.m. ET at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
"It's a great opportunity for Miami to play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl," said Head Coach Michael Haywood. "We want to thank the bowl committee for this invitation. Our team is excited about playing Middle Tennessee State."
Miami (9-4, 7-1 MAC) earned its first bowl appearance since 2004 and its 10th bowl overall with an exciting 26-21 victory over nationally ranked Northern Illinois last Friday in the MAC title game at Detroit's Ford Field. The RedHawks take a five-game winning streak into their bowl game and have eight more victories than they did a year ago.
"We are thrilled to be invited to the GoDaddy.com Bowl," said Miami Director of Athletics BRAD BATES. "I am particularly excited for our students and Michael Haywood and his staff who have earned this prestigious invitation. Miami had an extraordinary experience in Alabama in 2003 because of the great leadership of Jerry Silverstein, his dedicated staff and the people of Mobile, and we look forward to adding to the many great memories of our historical season. Nearly 1,400 Miami alumni reside in the state of Alabama and several thousand more are within a three-hour drive, including our alums on the New Orleans Saints staff. We look forward to having an outstanding experience with the hospitable folks of Mobile."
Middle Tennessee State's football team (6-6, 5-3 conference) defeated Florida International, 28-27, Saturday night at FIU to earn a bowl bid. Coach Rick Stockstill's Blue Raiders have won three straight games and are led by quarterback Dwight Dasher (173.5 passing yards per game, six touchdowns), running back Philip Tanner (70.1 rushing ypg, 11 TDs), and defensive standouts Jeremy Kellem (101 tackles), Darrin Davis (three interceptions) and Jamari Lattimore (11.5 QB sacks). It's Middle Tennessee State's third bowl bid in the last five years.
