Editor's Note: Senior co-captain Jordan Gafford will provide insight on Miami's trip to the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile through a series of journals on MURedHawks.com. While the team is in Oxford, entries will be posted at various intervals, but will appear daily from Mobile.
OFF TO MOBILE!
We just finished our last practice in Oxford, a short walkthrough at Yager Stadium. The equipment truck left this morning and we leave tomorrow after lunch for the airport.
I am so excited to finally be heading down south and inching closer to game day. I know the other guys feel the same. It seems like forever since we walked off the field in Detroit and I know the guys are really jacked to play again soon. I can't wait to spend the week in Mobile with the guys and have a great time enjoying the southern hospitality.
We have had some good practices this week in Cincinnati and one in Oxford. It is very different to have such a long time to prepare for a team. Guys have been able to watch a ton of film and have seen the same plays repeatedly in practice. I feel as though we have a great game plan. The coaches have done a great job of creating a good scheme and pushing the guys in practice. We will be ready to play.
Off the field, the guys have been able to spend a lot of time together and it has been a good bonding experience for an already very tight-knit team. I have had a great time hanging out with the guys in a very quiet Oxford. To entertain ourselves and prepare for Mobile several guys on the team have elected to grow out some pretty serious mustaches, then they proceeded to darken the `stache hairs to really make them stand out... It is hilarious and disgusting all at the same time. My vote for best mustache has to go to some of the equipment staff guys.
Lyman "Tootie" Wooten is definitely the leader in this category. Maybe in a future blog we can include some pictures and play a game called "Guess that Mustache" - I'll keep you posted.
I hope you all have a great new year, including Miami Football. I can't wait to get off to a terrific start in 2011 with a bowl win on January 6th. I'm excited to hear about the number of fans travelling to Mobile and I hope more consider joining us. It's going to be awesome.
Love and Honor,
JG
