Editor's Note: Senior co-captain Jordan Gafford will provide insight on Miami's trip to the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile through a series of journals on MURedHawks.com. While the team is in Oxford, entries will be posted at various intervals, but will appear daily from Mobile.
This blog comes to you from my home in Columbus, Ohio. I was able to make the two-hour drive back to Columbus on the 22nd and will be home until I leave for Oxford on the morning of the 28th. Being home has been great. I am so blessed to be with family for Christmas and have really enjoyed myself at home.
One of the highlights of the break has definitely been hanging with my six-month old nephew. Eli. My brother A.J. was a smart guy and married a Miami girl named Jennifer almost four years ago. They had their first child, Eli, on June 27th and he has been an awesome addition to the Gafford family. Everytime I am around him he is different than before. It really is crazy how fast kids grow up. I have also been able to see all the other members of my family. The Gafford family is very close and I really am a lucky guy to be related to some great people.
While at home I have also been studying film and making sure I am ready for MTSU. Our video coordinator, Dan Seigle, made me a DVD of MTSU film and I have been studying it at home with my dad. He has been a high school coach for over 20 years and was my coach in high school so it has been fun to study the game with him again. I continue to be confident about our gameplan and preparation for the bowl.
I have been talking to some of the guys everyday and they all seem to be enjoying their families as well. However, when speaking with the guys I can tell they are anxious and excited to get back to Oxford and get back to work.
I talked to Coach Guidry the other day and he was in Lousiana and was on his way to see the movie, "True Grit." I am sure he will have some new motivation or one-liner from the movie so that will be fun when we get back.
I know we still have three days of practice in Oxford upcoming, but I am ready to be in Mobile!
Love and Honor,
JG
