Miami RedHawks (5-4; 4-1 MAC)
vs.
Bowling Green Falcons (2-7; 1-4 MAC)
Miami continues its three-game road swing with a mid-week encounter with MAC East Division rival Bowling Green. The RedHawks, winners of two straight on the road, need just one more win to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2005. While the Falcons have struggled this year, they are coming off a 17-14 win at Central Michigan last Saturday.
Miami leads the all-time series with Bowling Green 41-20-5, including 19-9-4 on the road. However, the Falcons snapped a three-game losing streak to the RedHawks with a 35-14 win at Yager Stadium. Miami has won nine of the last 11 meetings.
THE COACHES
MIAMI HEAD COACH Michael Haywood (Notre Dame, `86) is in his second season at the helm of the Miami program ... 6-15 overall record, 5-8 MAC record ... served as Fighting Irish offensive coordinator the previous four seasons ... named NCAA Division I-A Assistant Coach of the Year in 2005 by the American Football Coaches Association.
BOWLING GREEN HEAD COACH DAVE CLAWSON (Williams, `89) is in his second season guiding the Falcons and owns a 9-13 record at BGSU, including 7-6 in the MAC. He's also been the head coach at Fordham (1999-2003) and Richmond (2004-07) and has an overall career record of 67-62.
QUICK HITS
1. Coach Michael Haywood's RedHawks look to improve their Mid-American Conference record to 5-1 next Wednesday. That would be Miami's best MAC start since 2004 when MU won the East Division title with a 7-1 record.
2. With a 5-4 record, Miami now has four more victories than it recorded in all of 2009 (1-11). That ties Maryland for the best improvement in the country so far this season. The RedHawks play Bowling Green (2-7) on Nov. 10, then wrap up their regular season with a road game at Akron (0-9) and a home contest vs. Temple (7-2).
3. Miami wide receiver Nick Harwell (Missouri City, TX) has been one of the nation's most prolific players over the last four games, catching 33 passes for 475 yards. He was named Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance vs. Buffalo when he had eight receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns, including a one-handed TD that clinched Miami's victory.
