MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Miami leads the all-time series 14-5-1, including 5-4 at Akron... Despite being East Division rivals, Wednesday meeting was the first since 2007, a 7-0 Miami win... The RedHawks have won seven of the last eight games.
- With the win, Miami improves to 7-4 overall, a six-win improvement over last season. The RedHawks entered the game tied with Maryland (+5) for the most improved team in the country. The seven wins are the most for the RedHawks since a 7-4 finish in 2005.
- The win was Miami's fourth straight on the road after an 0-2 start. The winning streak marks the longest away from home since the RedHawks won seven straight during the 2003 season.
- Redshirt freshman Austin Boucher made his first career start on Wednesday. He replaced starter Zac Dysert who suffered a lacerated spleen against Bowling Green last week and is out 4-6 weeks. Boucher made three previous appearances this season - at Missouri, at Cincinnati and at Bowling Green.
- Austin Boucher and Tracy Woods connected on a 40-yard pass play during the second quarter. The catch was the longest of the season for Woods, whose previous best was 20. The completion marked the fifth straight game, and eighth this year, that the RedHawks have had a pass play cover 40 or more yards.
- Thomas Merriweather posted a career-best 141 rushing yards, topping a 133-yard effort vs. Temple in 2008. It was his third century rushing game of his career, second this season after 105 yards against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 11. Merriweather had his seventh rushing touchdown of the season.
- Trevor Cook tied his career high with four field goals (22, 25, 27 and 32 yards), the same number he kicked in the season opener against Florida. It was his fourth multiple-field goal game of the season and ninth of his career and ranked tied for third in Miami's single-game record book, 0ne shy of the school record. The senior is now 14 of 17 on the year and 36 of 52 during his career, tying Jared Parseghian for third on the all-time makes list.
- C.J. Marck registered his first two career sacks during the second half. The RedHawks finished the game with three sacks of Zips quarterback Patrick Nicely.
- Brandon Stephens was the leading tackler with a season-best nine tackles, all solo. The effort was one shy of his career high.
- Dayonne Nunley intercepted his team-high fifth pass of the season in the fourth quarter. He is one shy of entering the Miami top 10 for a season.
- Miami held the ball for 33:51 of possession time, the 10th time in 11 games this year that the RedHawks have controlled the clock. Only Ohio was able to to the 30-minute mark for possession (35:21-24:39)
- Miami improved to 6-0 in games decided by seven points or less.
