SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - With three games remaining in the regular season, the Miami field hockey team controls its own destiny in its quest to win the first Mid-American Conference title in school history. It begins on Sunday when the RedHawks travel to Springfield, Mo. for a 1 p.m. (EDT) contest against Missouri State.
Miami is 5-2 in the MAC (10-6 overall) after splitting games with Kent State and Ohio last weekend. The Golden Flashes lead the league with a 6-2 record, but have only two games remaining. If the RedHawks win out they will clinch at least a share of their first conference crown. The Bobcats are also still in the conference race with a 6-3 record and one game remaining.
Missouri State is 5-11 overall and 2-5 in the MAC. On Friday, they defeated Ball State, 4-1. The Bears are the only team in the conference that plays on synthetic Field Turf rather than a traditional Astroturf field. MSU is led by Casey Bayliss with eight goals and five assists for 21 points on the season.
Miami concludes its regular season with two home matches next weekend. The RedHawks welcome Ball State to the field hockey complex on Friday, Oct. 29 for a 3 p.m. game. Then on Saturday, Oct. 30, Central Michigan will be in Oxford for a 1 p.m. contest. That one will be senior day, where Mary Hull, Christine Brightwell and Kate Snyder will be honored for their contributions to the Miami field hockey program.
