OXFORD, Ohio - Redshirt freshman quarterback Zac Dysert (Ada) will start in Saturday's Mid-American Conference game at Kent State, Miami University Head Football Coach MICHAEL HAYWOOD announced after Tuesday's practice.
"We believe that we should be more effective on offense," said Haywood. "The staff felt it was a great opportunity to put Dysert into the starting lineup so that we could do the things that we do best on offense. Zac's quick passing game and his ability to run the football will help us succeed. He did a nice job when he went into the game (at Western Michigan). He showed awareness and scramble-ability, and he showed much more confidence that he did the week before at Boise."
Dysert was inserted into the lineup by Haywood in the fourth quarter for Miami's last two offensive possessions at Western Michigan and Dysert responded by leading the RedHawks to two consecutive touchdown drives. His individual statistics showed him completing three-of-seven passes for 74 yards, including an 11-yard TD strike to tight end Jordan Stevens (Monroeville, PA). Dysert showed exceptional skill as a runner, gaining 32 yards on four carries.
Saturday's kickoff at Kent State's Dix Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The RedHawks' first game at Yager Stadium is on October 3 against nationally ranked Cincinnati. For ticket information, call Miami's Athletic Ticket Office at (513) 529-HAWK or toll free at 1-866-MUHAWKS (1-866-684-2957).
