John Busing, a letter winner for Miami University from 2002-05, will be playing for the Houston Texans tonight when they play host to the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. The ESPN telecast begins at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Busing has played in all nine games for the 5-4 Texans who can move into a tie for second place behind the undefeated Indianapolis Colts in the AFL South. He has 18 total tackles and recorded five tackles and an interception against the New York Jets in the regular season opener.
Other Miami football alumni who are in the NFL include Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Jake O'Connell and St. Louis Rams offensive guard Jacob Bell.
Roethlisberger has started all 10 games for the 6-4 Steelers, completing nearly 69 percent of his passes for 2,867 yards and 17 touchdowns. Since starring for Miami from 2001-03, he has played in 82 NFL games, passing for 17,841 yards and 118 touchdowns. Big Ben led the Steelers to Super Bowl championships in 2005 (2004 season) and 2009 (2008 season). In yesterday's overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Roethlisberger was on the sidelines for all but a few plays of the extra frame after he took a knee to the head while being sacked.
O'Connell, a letter winner at Miami from 2006-08, is on Kansas City's active roster, starting game two against Oakland. He does not yet have an NFL reception.
Bell, a 2004 Miami graduate, is in his sixth season as a pro. He has started all 10 games for the 1-9 Rams this season. For his career he has been a starter in 55 consecutive games and in 69 of the 78 contests he's played since he joined the Tennessee Titans roster as a rookie in 2004.
