OXFORD, Ohio - This is the seventh in a series of 16 features about Miami University's brightest student-athletes. Their exceptional academic performance during the recently completed spring semester earned them a spot on the roster of the RedHawks' exclusive Straight A Team. In addition to their rigorous schedules on the athletic fields, each of these individuals earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average this past semester. Overall, during the 2007-08 academic year, Miami's 500-plus student-athletes earned an impressive cumulative 3.0 GPA in the classroom.
At the conclusion of a competitive career, who can speak better on the accomplishments of student-athlete than their head coach.
For Erin Frazer, a graduated senior from Wheaton, Ill., head women's track and field coach Dr. Richard Ceronie knows what the pole vault and javelin competitor brought to the track and classroom at Miami University.
"Erin Frazer brought a true enjoyment and passion to the sport of track & field. As a walk-on she competed for the pure love and competitive nature of sport," said Ceronie.
As a walk-on, Frazer earned every chance she had, and translated her efforts into points for the RedHawks at the conference championship. She finished eighth in the javelin at the 2008 MAC Championships after finishing seventh in the same event the year before.
Ceronie explains that the competitive spirit that Frazer sharpened in Oxford will translate into success in her professional career.
"Erin plans a career in the medical profession and I have no doubt she will be highly successful, whatever specialty she chooses," the 24th-year Miami mentor stated. "I believe she will transition the skills learned at Miami into being a highly sought after medical professional."
Academically, Frazer leaves Miami with a degree in zoology and achieved an excellent cumulative grade-point average of 3.86. She closed out her academic career in impressive fashion, earning a perfect 4.0 during the 2008 spring semester.
Ceronie explained that Frazer's time management skills combined with her intelligence to form a student that is made for success.
"She is intelligent, but able to formulate academic goals into manageable pieces, therefore allowing her to maintain a high success rate in the classroom," Ceronie ended.
