RedHawks Fall to No. 25 VCU Rams, 6-1

RICHMOND, Va.--Playing its third nationally ranked team in dual match action this season, Miami University's women's tennis team lost 6-1 at Virginia Commonwealth on Thursday afternoon. The RedHawks dropped to 6-3 on the season, while the Rams improved to 12-0.
Miami took one of the three doubles matches, with freshmen Megan Martzolf and Cara Wald teaming up at No. 2 doubles and producing an 8-5 win.
Miami's lone point of the match came from senior Leda Pesatova at No. 3 singles. Pesatova downed VCU's Olena Leonchuk by scores of 6-4, 6-4. With the win Pesatova moved to 2-1 at No. 3 singles and to 6-2 on the season.
Wald had a strong showing in singles action for the Red and White, taking her match to a three-set tie-breaker. After being edged in the first set, 5-7, Wald came back to top VCU's Kateryna Malakhova 6-2 in the second set. She lost the pro-set tie breaker 10-5.
Miami continues a nine-match road stretch when it travels to College Park, Md., to take on Maryland at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
