Miami/Kent State Quotes 10/25/08
Coach Montgomery:
Opening statement: "Very disappointing today considering what we came off of last week. I thought our kids were ready to play. We knew what we were in for and what we were going to face defensively, a team that's been more consistent in the past 4-5 years."
On Miami's fumbles: "We started off decent and then we turned the ball over. I told the guys after the game it doesn't matter who you're playing, if you turn the ball over six times you aren't going to win a game. You've got to give Kent State credit; they did force the fumbles."
J.R. Taylor:
On getting more playing time: "I'm just out there trying to help the team and get more oriented. The pass blocking has been the most difficult adjustment for me. I think in the next few games, I'll get a few more carries."
Clay Belton:
On his passes today: "I don't want to blame it on the wind but the ball just sailed on me."
On the status of the team after today's game: "We're at a place where we can't keep our heads down; the season isn't over by any means."
On practice vs. the game: "You can't really compare practice to what you see in the game; the speed of the game is another thing."
Coach Martin:
On Kent State's players: "I'm real proud of our players. We played like we were capable of playing."
"Our guys didn't prove anything today. They won a game; they did nothing." On the score after halftime: "We stayed with what we had and tried to remain aggressive."
On preparing for the game vs. Miami: "Our practices looked like a civil war battle the past two weeks, but the players responded."
Eugene Jarvis:
On himself as a player this season so far: "You have to take it one day at a time. The more practice I get the more comfortable I get."
On the team this season so far: "Now that we got this out of the way we gotta be more consistent."
On Brian Lainhart and his contributions to the team: "The thing about Brian is he prepares harder than anyone."
Julian Edelman:
On Kent State's high score: "We always wanted to be a 30-point game team. Thirty points a game is where we want to be. My dad always says, `once is luck, twice is skill.'"
