OXFORD, Ohio -
Miami University student-athletes compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.07 during the 2007 fall semester, Director of Athletics Brad Bates announced today.
Of the 526 student-athletes, more than half had at least a "B" average (3.00 grade-point average) and 21 percent received Dean's List recognition (3.50-3.99 GPA). Twelve of the individuals represented RedHawk athletics on the President's List, compiling a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Led by the women's cross country team's 3.32 combined GPA and the men's cross country team's 3.31 GPA, a total of 14 of the 18 teams compiled at least a 3.0 GPA, with the four remaining teams registering just below a "B" average.
"The intellectual achievements of our students within the rigorous curriculum of Miami University continues to establish new benchmarks for future students to strive.," said Bates. "This accomplishment is a tribute to `our' students, the coaches that bring them to this great institution, the faculty that develop their minds, and the people who support their drive to excel in all aspects of their lives. Equally as impressive is the realization that this gradepoint- average was accomplished during a semester when our student-athlete graduation rate reached 85% and three of our four fall teams that compete in a sport with a conference championship game earned a spot in the championship."
